BT Pension Scheme names head of sustainable investment

first_imgOne of the UK’s largest private sector pension schemes, BTPS was a founding signatory of the Principles for Responsible Investment in 2006. It reported in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures in its latest report and accounts. Morten Nilsson, the scheme’s chief executive officer, recently said ESG was becoming much more important as a result of the pandemic.Commenting on Barron’s appointment, he said: “Sustainable investment underpins our investment strategy and we have ambitious plans in this area. Victoria’s knowledge and expertise will play a key role in helping us achieve our objectives and I’m pleased to welcome her to the team.” BT Pension Scheme Management, the in-house investment manager for the UK telecommunication company’s pension fund, has appointed Victoria Barron as head of sustainable investment, a new role.She will lead the BT Pension Scheme’s (BTPS) ongoing development and integration of stewardship and environmental, social and governance (ESG) work, and support its ”sustainable investment ambitions”, the fund announced.Barron joins the pension investor from Newton Investment Management, where she developed and led its house view on climate change and child labour issues and undertook ESG investment integration as a responsible investment analyst.She previously worked at Hermes Equity Ownership Services and CCLA Investment Management. Victoria Barron, now head of sustainable investment for BTPSBarron added: “BTPS has a strong heritage of sustainable investment and I’m looking forward to helping the scheme achieve its investment objectives at a time when the importance of sustainability has never been greater, particularly as we emerge from the pandemic.”BTPS has more than £50bn (€55bn) in assets under management. Each year it pays out approximately £2.5bn in benefit payments to the 200,000 retired members of the scheme and their beneficiaries.To read the digital edition of IPE’s latest magazine click here.last_img
