Cougars are CDA 2019 dominoes champs


first_imgTORONTO, Canada – Cougars took top honours when the annual Canadian Dominoes Association (CDA) aggregate tournament ended recently at Starlite Family Restaurant & Bar, Scarborough here.Unlike last season when the tournament only attracted six teams, this year saw nine vying for supremacy over several weeks. In the end, the consistent Cougars tallied 2 634 games, 64 clear of Young Blood who occupied the second spot on 2 570. Empire finished third with 2 498.Glory Guys placed fourth with 2 488 games, one more than last year’s winners Better Hope, who had to settle for fifth with 2 487. Demerara (2 484), Carr Tec (2 474), Titans (2 447) and Lions (2 441) were the other competing teams.Glory Guys’ Derrick Chung displayed remarkable consistency throughout the tournament to end with 471 games with Cougars’ Duggie placing second on 456, four more than his teammate Moses Debidin who ended with 452.Better Hope’s Komal shared seven loves to emerge tops in that category, collecting Cdn$100 in the process.Cash prizes were handed out to all the participating teams with the winners collecting Cdn$1800, first runners-up $1500, second runners-up $1200; fourth $900; fifth $830, sixth $780, seventh $720, eighth $660 and ninth $600.Top player Chung was awarded $200, Duggie received $150 and Moses $100. Apart from their cash prize, Cougars took a lien on the challenge trophy while all their registered players were recipients of trophies. They will have a replica of the trophy while any team winning on three occasions will have the trophy for keeps. The tournament was organised and run by Ray ‘Lance’ Williams who also represented Titans.Williams expressed sincere thanks to the proprietors of Starlite for allowing the entity to stage the tournament at the venue while owner, Albert Ramcharran, also pointed out that it was a pleasure hosting the annual competition.
