Albouystown man jailed for seawall robberies

first_imgA 21-year-old man was on Thursday jailed for three years after he was found guilty of two counts of robbery.Ceon Ray, 21, who gave his places of residence as Sussex Street, Campbellville and Albouystown, Georgetown, was found guilty of two robbery offences at the conclusion of his trial before Magistrate Rondel Weaver.The charge stated that on June 15, 2019 at Kingston seawall, Georgetown, he robbed Tyrell Chu of a quantity of items amounting to $17,000. The second charge stated that on the same day at the same location, he robbed Ishan Singh of a cell phone and cash valued $56,500.Magistrate Weaver sentenced Ray to three years imprisonment on each charge. However, the sentences will run concurrently.Reports are the couple were having lunch at the seawall when they were attacked and robbed by Ray and an accomplice.A nearby Police patrol responded to their plea for help and apprehended the two men with the stolen items in their possession.Ray’s accomplice, Navin Ally, had admitted to the charges and was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment. In June, as the men were being escorted into the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, they made a short-lived dash for freedom.Ali ran in the direction of the Kitty minibus park but was captured by a group Police officers who were in the vicinity and saw ranks from the court firing shots in the area.Ray, on the other hand, ran towards Lombard Street, Georgetown, but quick actions by the Police ranks resulted in him too being rearrested.last_img
