From staff reports Defending CIF Division VI finalist El Segundo opened Ocean League play by winning, 9-5, Monday at Milken, one of the area’s tougher water polo venues. El Segundo coach George Harris said the Milken pool is tiny – 20 yards by 12 yards. Santa Monica lost at Milken last season, and Beverly Hills was forced to go to overtime. Goalkeeper Matt Kubeck made 17 saves for El Segundo (7-4). Danny Rajaniemi had four goals and Matt Pittluck added three for El Segundo. Nic Curcio and Beau Blacksten had goals for the Eagles, ranked third in Division VI. “I’m just glad to get out of this place with a win,” Harris said. “There’s no pool quite like it.” Girls tennis Redondo’s Della Taylor improved to 27-0 after sweeping three singles sets in a 14-4 nonleague win at El Segundo.
