Ranil notes importance of working with Sirisena on key issues

“We are not taking steps to ensure national unity and leave no room for extremism,” the Prime Minister said. He said that the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims then voted for President Maithripala Sirisena and a unity Government was formed. The Prime Minister said that the Government took time to achieve some of its goals as it was facing huge debt left behind by the former regime.He says the Government has been able to address the economic issues and draw foreign investors to the country. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today noted the importance of working with President Maithripala Sirisena on key national issues.Speaking at a public event in Eravur, the Prime Minister noted that despite the end of the war in 2009 there was no attempt made for national unity. The Prime Minister said that as part of this move Singapore has been invited to draw plans to develop Trincomalee while India and Japan have shown interest to be part of the process.He also said that Hambantota will see massive development as a result of the Hambantota port agreement and moves to give the Mattala Airport to a new company by the end of this year. (Colombo Gazette)
